About
15 years ago my Dad died and I inherited the lathe that he had
taught me to turn on when I was about 5 years old. And it even
came with all the tools and attachments.
After
losing interest in fixing computers for a living, and after discovering
my joy of wood turning again, I eventually found that people would
actually pay for my designs. So
along with my partner Marti we eventually "dropped out"
of the city rat race, and moved to Knysna area and grew my hair
long to look like a real artist (no - not everyone was fooled).
So
now, when I am not in the gallery, you can find me travelling
around to shows and seminars or visiting the kids and grandkids.
Sometimes I am also on the beach looking for a rare find of drift
wood, or shooting the breeze at some lumber yard looking for another
unique piece of wood that will turn (pun intended) into something
worthy of my brand.
I
hope you can tell I am passionate about the woods as well as the
results. Not just how the look and feel. But what they are and
where they came from, that is why each
piece from my gallery comes with a card relating its botanical
name, as well as a brief description and history of its origins.
